pillar 01 · culture
where you come from.
identity, roots, music, food, and the unwritten rules that shape how we move through the world.
culture is the first layer. it’s where everything starts — the music that raised you, the food your family made, the neighborhoods that taught you how to read a room before you could read a sentence. it’s the stuff nobody teaches you in a classroom, but everyone carries with them into every room they’ll ever enter.
this pillar is for the unwritten rules. the ones that told you how to move, what to value, who you were supposed to become. i write about the things that made me — and the things i had to unlearn to grow into who i am now.
you don’t leave where you come from. you carry it with you into every room, and the work is learning which parts to keep.
expect essays on code-switching, the weight of being the first, what the neighborhood actually gave you vs. what it cost you, and why the food, the music, and the language are always the real inheritance.
